Tamara Ann "Tammy" Meade

Tamara Ann "Tammy" Meade, age 71, of Ekalaka passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13 at Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City.

Tammy was born on August 16, 1948 in Baker, Montana the youngest of five children. She grew up in Ekalaka where she attended grade school and high school. Tammy loved playing baseball as a child and pitched better than most of the boys her age. She often said that if she could have played one sport, it would have been baseball. At the age of 10, Tammy's father passed away, and since she was the youngest and still at home, she spent a lot of time helping her mom. Tammy even started her first job working alongside her mother, washing local residents' clothes.

Tammy held various jobs until she started work as a certified nursing assistant at Dahl Memorial Healthcare. She took great pride and very much enjoyed her many years as a CNA at the hospital. She even considered pursuing a nursing degree before a back injury ended her career.

In 1987, Tammy was blessed with the light of her life, her only child, Presley.

In 1992, Tammy and four-year-old Presley moved to South Dakota for work. While in South Dakota, Tammy held various jobs in Belle Fourche before moving to Newell where she worked with the meals on wheels program and was well-liked by all of her customers.

Following the death of her mother in 2002, Tammy and Presley moved back to Ekalaka in June of 2003. They took up residence in her mother's old house right off of Main Street. With Presley being a sophomore in high school, Tammy thoroughly enjoyed watching her son compete in all CCHS athletics, something she was very proud of and never hesitated to boast about. She also spent a substantial amount of time dealing with his high school friends, cooking them meals and goodies and putting up with their sometimes crazy antics and rowdy behavior. Tammy served as host for the one and only "Breakfast Club" in 2005. She was also a founding member of the Meadowlark Club.

In her later years, Tammy enjoyed tending to her garden and spending time with her cats, especially "Little Bit," the old cat that made the move with her back to Ekalaka. She loved watching Notre Dame football (thanks to Presley) and Golden State Warriors basketball.

Tammy was a strong woman. She was always happy and could talk to and get along with most everyone. She left people in a better mood than they were in before talking to her and wasn't one to turn down a good time. She enjoyed being a bit ornery and giving people a hard time, something even the nurses who helped her in her last few weeks were not immune to.

Tammy was very much looking forward to becoming a grandmother later this month. She was so excited to spoil her granddaughter and pay her son back for "being a snot nose teenager."

Tammy is survived by her son, Presley and unborn granddaughter; sister-in-law, Beverly Meade; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, William "Bude" Meade; mother, Jean Elmore; brothers, Homer Meade, Frank Meade; sisters, Ione Morgan, and Delores "Peggy" Volin.

A small, private visitation was held on Friday, April 17. Cremation has taken place. A wake will be held at a later date due to the recent outbreak of the coronavirus. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: http://www.stevensonfuneralhome.com.

Should friends desire, a donation can be made in the name of Tammy Meade to the Carter County Food Bank.
