Rose Ann Turbiville

Rose Ann Turbiville was born on March 24, 1934 to William C. and Ruby (Johnson) Rowley in Ekalaka. Rose left this world to continue her journey in Heaven on February 9, 2020 surrounded by loved ones.

She grew up in Ekalaka where she graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1952. She then attended MTSU. She married Dick Turbiville in 1953 and they lived in Billings, where Don and Ann were born. After Dick received his degree, they moved back to the Turbiville Brothers family ranch in the Mill Iron area. While on the ranch, LaVerne and Rich were born in Ekalaka. The couple continued their education at Black Hills State during this period.

The family moved to Ekalaka, where Rose taught Kindergarten and was active in the community. They went to Gardiner and then relocated to Hot Springs, SD and ultimately made their home in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Rose was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, instilling in her children and grandchildren her love of animals and nature. Throughout Dick's career, Rose was by his side helping to run family restaurants and was his biggest cheerleader in his coaching and educator's career.

When Dick and Rose retired, they lived on two small ranches, where they raised champion Rambouillet sheep and a menagerie of small animals that were loved and cared for. They moved to Belle Fourche, where Rose was active in the church, gardening, golf and bowling. She always had a love for the piano, singing, sewing, and had a beautiful flower garden wherever they lived. Together they enjoyed traveling and taking their golf clubs to play on courses wherever they went.

Rose will always be remembered for her smile, compassion, kindness, patience, her love of nature and animals, her gift of gab and her quick wit which stayed with her until the end.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; her parents, William C. and Ruby Rowley; brother, Clarence; Alden and Eva Turbiville; Dorothy Butrymowicz; Unk and Um.

Rose is survived by her children, Don (Sue) Turbiville, Ann Sullivan, Laverne Collins (Arlo), and Rich Turbiville; grandchildren, Sarah (Scott) Erikson, Ross (Megan) Turbiville, Aaron (Jess) Boyd, Danielle Blakney, Quinn Sullivan, Jeremy (Mandy) Aspen, Alanna (Joshua) Didier, Ashley (Jimmy) Kopp, Jessica Turbiville, Brittany, Joe and Eli; her 17 great grandchildren; Linda (Dave) Kautzman and family; John Butrymowicz and family; and Gerry Rowley and family.

Visitation will be held at Black Hills Funeral Home on Thursday, February 13, 2020 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Rose will then make her final trip home to Ekalaka where graveside services will be held at Beaverlodge Cemetery in Ekalaka on Friday, February 14 at 11 a.m. followed with a gathering of family and friends at the Ekalaka Bible Church to celebrate the blessed life that she lived.
