Upcoming events at Carter County Museum

Carter County Geological Society will be holding a meeting this Thursday, December 5th, at 7 p.m. at the Carter County Museum. Free Stompin’ Grounds local favorite pizza, the Hell Creek and Back, will be served along with breadsticks. There will also be a special viewing of “The Planets: Ice Worlds” by PBS. The film shows dazzling rings, supersonic winds and dozens of moons of Uranus and Neptune as well as an up-close views of Pluto.

This Sunday, December 8, the museum will serve as host for a ginergerbread decorating party. This timely event will put everyone who attends in the holiday spirit. Participants will join museum staff from 1 to 4 p.m. for an afternoon of festive edible architecture. The museum will provide materials, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own pastry tools and candy to supplement. Holiday music and hot chocolate will also be provided.

When finished, gingerbread houses can be taken home, along with a copy of the museum’s own gingerbread recipe. Call 406-775-6886 or email jhall@cartercountymuseum.org to reserve a spot. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

In 2018, the museum had record attendance of 5,144 people and reached 4,915 students through educational programming. So far in 2019, that attendance number has already been broken. The museum also launched a summer education program this year that reached 2,527 children in Carter County and beyond. Carter County Museum seeks to continue to expand and improve its programming.
