A Veterans Day program was held at Carter County High School recognizing local veterans on Monday. A light social hour kicked off the day's activities at around 2 p.m. Carter County FCCLA provided snacks for veterans and their families.
The program kicked off with opening remarks from Ekalaka Public Schools Superintendent Kathryn Wright. Awards were then given to students who participated in a coloring contest. Jerry Wright, the superintendent's father and a veteran of the U.S. Army, Army Reserve and South Dakota National Guard, then delivered a speech to all in attendance. Most recently, he was called into service in 2006 and spent a year in Kuwait during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has 27 years in overall military service
Several patriotic musical selections were performed throughout the day by CCHS and Ekalaka Elementary students under the direction of Ekalaka Public Schools Music Director Nate Louisignau.
The program was well received by the many members of the community in attendance.
