Town of Ekalaka General Election

This year’s General Municipal Election for the Town of Ekalaka will be a mail ballot election. On Wednesday, October 16, the Carter County Clerk and Recorder’s office mailed ballots to all registered active voters who reside within the boundaries of Ekalaka.

Active electors will be able to vote in the privacy of their own homes. Each registered elector in the Town of Ekalaka will receive an individual ballot packet. The packet will contain an official ballot. Up for election are one 4-year term and two 2-year terms for town council.

Electors will vote their individual ballots, seal them in the secrecy envelope provided in the packet, place the secrecy envelope in the return envelope with the signed affidavit on its back and return that envelope to the clerk’s office at the courthouse. Any voter who fails to sign and date the affidavit envelope will not have their vote counted. The office will, however, attempt to reach any voter who failed to sign or date.

Polls will not be opened on Election Day. All voted ballots must be returned to the Clerk and Recorder’s Office no later than 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5. The ballots may either be hand delivered or mailed to the office at P.O. Box 315, Ekalaka, MT 59324.

Voters who choose to mail their ballot should keep in mind postal service delivery times and mail their ballots early so that they can be delivered before the close of election on November 5.

Voters who reside in the same household must not enclose their ballots together in the same secrecy envelope; their ballots must be deposited in their own secrecy envelope, which has been provided in the packet.

For any questions about the election, please contact the Carter County Clerk and Recorder’s Office. Voters who believe they may have received a ballot by mistake, or did not receive a ballot and should have, are urged to call the office at 406-775-8749.

Ballots will be counted on the evening of Tuesday, November 5, 2019 in the Commission meeting room at Carter County Courthouse.
