Seniors shine on senior night

Carter County High outscored St. Labre 38-0 in the first half and went on to win 38-16 at home last Friday night in Ekalaka. The win improved the Bulldogs record to 4-1 in their conference and 5-2 overall.

The two senior men who play for CCHS helped give the Dogs their large, early lead and then cheered on their younger teammates from the sideline for most of the second half.

The game was senior night for the two, and they will likely remember it as not only did the Dogs get the win by a wide margin, but the game was played in freezing temperatures after last weeks snow storm. In fact, Bulldog coaches and CCHS maintenance were cleaning snow off the field with equipment just hours before kickoff.

Senior Mick O'Connor started the scoring for Blue when he caught a 25 yard toss from Turner Tooke. Tooke ran in the conversion. Shayne Enos scored later in the first quarter on a 29 yard run. Tooke scored once more in the first quarter on a 25 yard run of his own.

Eight seconds into the second quarter Jared Pardee scored on a 40 yard run. O'Connor scored a second time on a 28 yard run at the 2:22 mark in the second. Then, with 26 seconds left before halftime, senior Grafton Bonsell caught a 45 yard pass from Tooke. Bonsell made the play look easy, catching one of Tooke's best passes of the season with an injured hand.

In the second half, St. Labre mustered two scores on younger Bulldog players. The first came on an 18 yard pass and the second on a 47 yard hook and lateral. The Bulldog starters completely shut down St. Labre's offense in the first half.

This Saturday at 1 p.m., the Bulldogs will play the Circle Wildcats in an inter-division playoff game at home. Inter-division games this weekend will determine the top four seeds from the 8-Man East Conference for state playoffs. CCHS and Circle are playing for the two and three seeds.

Other 8-Man East inter-division matchups this week include Scobey at Fairview (one and two seeds), Plentywood at Culbertson and Lodge Grass at Forsyth. Depending on the outcome of the games, challenge games may be necessary to determine final conference seeding heading into the playoffs. Those challenge games would be played on October 26. The first round of the playoffs will take place on November 1 and 2.
