The Carter County Bulldogs lost a tough conference football game in Scobey last Saturday.
Blue received the opening kickoff. On their second play from scrimmage, junior back Seth Kennedy was injured. The Bulldogs were already down one back going into the contest and Kennedy's injury kept him from returning. With few options, coach Tenadore Kittelmann made the decision to move junior guard Jared Pardee into the backfield. Brennan Bonsell replaced Pardee on the offensive line.
After their first few possessions, the Dogs settled in with their new-look offense. A long drive ended in a Pardee scoring run with only a few seconds left in the first half. At halftime, the Spartans led, 14-8.
In the second half Scobey opened up their offense. Since the Dogs had done a good job against the Spartan run game in the first half, Scobey put the game in the hands of their quarterback Jayce Tande. Tande continually threw accurate passes down the field to receivers that were mostly covered by Bulldog defenders.
Midway through the third quarter, CCHS and Scobey were trading scores, but as the game wore on CCHS was forced to try to score at a quick pace to keep up with the Spartans. They were unable to. Blue managed two scores in the second half while the Spartans passing attack put up 34. CCHS lost by a final of 18-48.
Pardee did a fine job running the ball. He lined up at both fullback and halfback after spending the majority of the season at guard creating holes for other Bulldog backs. The Spartans continually loaded the box to try to stop him and it usually took a host of defenders to drag him down when he carried the ball.
This Friday night, CCHS takes on St. Labre at home. Next weekend CCHS will host an interdivision playoff game at home. Friday night's kickoff is at 7 p.m. while the interdivision game next Saturday will start at 1 p.m.
