Fire department, area volunteers clean up Main

Ekalaka Volunteer Fire Department, along with the aid of some community volunteers, cleaned Main Street last Thursday prior to the county fair. Each volunteer spent anywhere between three and fourteen hours sweeping and shoveling gravel, sand and dirt off the street. Weeds were also removed from cracks in the pavement and concrete. After the street was swept, the fire department washed the street using fire trucks and equipment.

All involved showed pride and spirit in their community. Stompin' Grounds coffee also offered free coffee to all of the volunteers.

Those volunteering included: Mike Quade, Jeff Venhaus, Monte Lou Munro, JP Louvar, Paul Louvar, Mark Wright, Judy Wright, Andy Wright, Pat Strickland, Denice Strickland, Wayne Yost, Doug Stieg, Sandy Stieg, Jennifer Waterland, Zeb Wright, Eric Lovec, Vicki Fix, Kitty Schmid, Sam Erfman, Tanner Fix, Dave Johnstone, Adam Kuntz, Jake Hammel and Bill Kalstrom.

The fire department was also busy on Friday preparing and serving at their annual Days of '85 Firemen's Barbecue. On Sunday, they had a float in the parade. Later at the rodeo, Jay Beach won the department's raffle for an Aero Precision .65 Creedmoor rifle.
