Matt McCabe was elected as the Northern Pulse Growers Association (NPGA) secretary by the Northern Pulse Growers Association board of directors on January 29. McCabe, a 2008 CCHS alumnus, graduated from MSU with a crop science degree and has been farming and involved in the industry since 2013. McCabe is also the chairman of the Carter County Weed Board. McCabe farms with his family outside of Ekalaka.
In addition to the election of secretary, Chris Westergard, Dagmar, MT was elected as president, Mark Hard, Beach, ND was elected as vice-president, and Sam Arnson, Williston, ND as treasure. Additional members of the NPGA board members include newly elected Lee Novak, Minot, ND; Ryan Davidson, Tioga, ND; Kevin Haas, Jamestown, ND; Todd Wagner, Nashua, MT; and Chad Doheny, Dutton, MT.
The Northern Pulse Growers Association is a nonprofit organization representing Montana and North Dakota producers and industry representatives of dry peas, lentils and chickpeas. The total acres in 2018 between the two states account for about 80% pulses making it the largest pulse producing region in the United States.
