Girl Scout gives back

Area residents might recognize Ekalaka Elementary third grader Cordelia Cofer because there is a good chance she has sold them delicious Girl Scout cookies, probably more than once.

Cordelia is a Juliette Girl Scout. Juliette scouts are registered girl members in grades K-12 who are not affiliated with a troop and complete Girl Scout activities with the guidance of an adult mentor. Since there is not a Girl Scout troop in the area, this fits her needs and interests very well.

Being a Juliette also means that the money she raises through her various Girl Scout activities, including selling S'mores, Thin Mints, Samoas, and Savannah Smiles, goes into her own Juliette fund instead of back to a troop. Cordelia gets to choose what to do with her funds.

At the end of last year, the youngster chose to use her funds to buy goods for the local food bank. She is thankful that the community supports her, and decided that donating to the food bank would be a great way to give back. Cordelia took $100 and headed to Mainstreet Market where she picked out the items and then delivered them herself.

This year, Cordelia will start to take pre-orders for cookies in February. She can be reached at 920-284-1970 if locals happen to miss her at their home or place of business. Then, in March and April she will be at various booths around town selling what cookies she has left.

Hopefully Cordelia sells even more cookies this year. Not only are they delicious, but the money raised is sure to be used wisely.
