Forty-five coyotes harvested at annual hunt

Forty-five coyotes were harvested at the 6th Annual Cap Keith Memorial Coyote Hunt last weekend in Ekalaka. This year was the first time that the hunt ran for two days, from Friday night after a 7 p.m. rules meeting until Sunday evening at 5 p.m.

Twenty-eight teams participated this year. Placing first was a team headed by Zane Williams with 7 coyotes. Rusty Knuths and Doug Stickney placed second with 6 coyotes. Ryan Routier and Clint Zolnoski took third with 5 coyotes. Zeb Wright, Stefan Livingston and Matt "Dog Soldier" Nies took fourth with four coyotes. Since multiple teams harvested four coyotes, total weight was used to determine the fourth place winner.

Kodee Varner won the prize for the biggest dog harvested and Ryan Routier won the prize for the smallest.

The Keith family and organizers are grateful to all who participated and helped make the annual event a big success.
