Lady Blue goes 1-1 to start season

On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs opened their basketball season in Lavina against Reed Point-Rapelje. The girls controlled the majority of the contest, outscoring their opponent 17-1 in the second quarter, and winning by 33 points. Blue showed early season shooting troubles, shooting 36 percent on two-pointers, 17 percent on threes, and 24 percent from the free-throw line. However, they made up for it on defense, forcing 34 turnovers while only committing 18. They also out-rebounded Reed Point-Rapelje, 34-14. Eight players made their way into the scoring column, led by Whitney Kittelmann with 15.

Game two of the girls’ opening weekend against Winnett-Grass Range didn’t go as well. The girls were outscored in the second and third quarters by a combined 15 points, the same number of points the lost the game by. Shooting troubles continued despite the team going 5-6 from the charity stripe. The girls shot 5-21 on two-point field goals and only 3-13 from behind the arc. They were also out-rebounded 16-24, with only two of those rebounds coming offensively, and had 17 turnovers while only forcing 15. Hannah LaBree led the team in rebounds with five; Heather LaBree led in points with 11.
