Pledges to support programs at Carter County Museum
This #GivingTuesday, Carter County Geological Society will celebrate giving by supporting the Carter County Museum's exhibitions, educational outreach programming and the Keep Collections Local Campaign for Expansion. Since 2012, the museum has undergone a revitalization effort, which quadrupled attendance from 1,000 to 4,895 visitors in 2017 as well as tripled yearly income. The museum seeks to continue that trend and improve its collections stewardship. By supporting it on Giving Tuesday, a donation will ensure the museum's work of spreading knowledge about the unique history of Southeastern Montana and preserving the past.
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year's #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27th and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.
As the first county museum in Montana and the first to display dinosaurs in the state, the Carter County Museum has been a community institution for over 80 years. It is participating in GivingTuesday to further goals of increasing educational programming, keeping collections stewardship at the peak of industry standards, and supporting scientific research and collection.
Founded in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y – a community and cultural center in New York City − #GivingTuesday inspired millions of people to give back and support the causes they believe in. Over $300 million was raised online to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.
"We are incredibly inspired by the way the #GivingTuesday community has embraced this concept for a worldwide movement," said Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday and Executive Director of 92Y. "As we prepare for November 27, we're energized and encouraged by the community's generosity. The levels of creativity, effort and the quality of the new ideas people have contributed and shared are phenomenal."
The Carter County Geological Society and Museum are also thanking new and returning members by offering a 10 percent discount in the museum giftshop for CCGS Members. Memberships are $10 per person, per year, and are due in November. In addition to the discount, members receive a regular newsletter and a standing invitation to CCGS meetings.
