CCHS wins District 2C Volleyball Tournament

It took thirteen sets against conference rival Wibaux for CCHS Volleyball to take home first place at the District 2C Volleyball Tournament in Glendive last weekend.

In their tourney opener, the girls handily defeated NCTS, 25-16, 25-7, and 25-6. Sisters Hannah and Heather LaBree tied for the lead in aces with 8 each. Gracie Tooke led in digs with 6 of the team's 13, and Tori Tooke led in assists with 13 of 26. Tori Tooke and Whitney Kittelmann tied for a team high in kills with 6. Tori Tooke also had one block, as did fellow senior Bulldog Claire Callahan.

The Bulldogs also won their second tournament match in three sets. The win was against Broadus, 25-12, 25-19, and 25-14. Hannah LaBree had 6 of 8 aces, Callahan had 10 of 29 kills and 3 of 6 blocks, Heather LaBree had 7 of 19 digs, Tori Tooke and Whitney Kittelmann each had 13 of the team;s 26 assists.

On Friday, the Dogs lost to Wibaux in four sets, 18-25, 19-25, 25-13, 23-25. Tori Tooke had a team high in aces (3 of 9) and assists (18 of 37). Callahan led the way in kills (23 of 41) and blocks (7 of 10). Heather LaBree had 19 of the team's 37 assists.

The loss sent Lady Blue to the other side of the bracket where they took on Circle. The winner of the match would head to the championship against Wibaux, the loser would finish the tournament in third place. CCHS won the match in three straight sets, 25-7, 25-22, 25-7. Gracie Tooke and Heather LaBree each had 3 of the team's 11 aces. Tori Tooke led in kills (11 of 39) and assists (14 of 30). Callahan had 2 of 4 blocks and Hannah LaBree had 10 of 54 digs.

The Bulldogs headed to the championship to face Wibaux again on Friday evening. With the loss earlier in the day to the Longhorns, the Bulldogs had to win two consecutive matches to win the tournament. The first match against Wibaux went 5 sets and was close, with the fifth ending 15-13 in favor of the Dogs. Gracie Tooke had 3 of 10 assists, Callahan had 18 of 46 kills, Heather LaBree had 26 of 106 digs, and Tori Tooke had 25 of 42 assists.

Lady Blue kept their momentum going by winning the first set of the second match, 25-21. The Dogs lost the second set 21-25, but came back and won the next two sets, 25-16 and 25-18, to win the tournament. Tori Tooke led in kills (18 of 47) and assists (15 of 31). Gracie Tooke had 19 of 89 digs and Callahan had 5 of 7 blocks.

This weekend, Blue will head to Sidney for the Eastern C Divisional Volleyball Tournament. Their first match is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. against North Country.
