Last weekend the Ekalaka junior high basketball season started. On October 12, the Pups took on Sacred heart at home. In the B squad game the girls won a tight contest 25-24. Kendra Tooke scored a game high nine points and went 1-4 at the charity stripe.

The Ekalaka A squad defeated Sacred Heart 39-14. The Pup defense was solid late in the contest, allowing zero points in the fourth quarter while putting up an impressive 18. Heidi LaBree and Codi Melton led the way with 13 points each.

The following day the girls played at home against Broadus. Ekalaka B played in an overtime thriller, eventually losing by 4. Nasya O’Connor had 13 points to lead all scorers.

The Ekalaka A team was able to start their season 2-0 after defeating Broadus 38-17. The Pups did have 16 team fouls, while only going 2-6 from the free throw line. Tyra O’Connor led all scorers with 12 points.

Ekalaka junior high boys played games against Sacred Heart and Broadus over the weekend to start their season. Against Sacred Heart on Friday, Ekalaka B pulled out a victory, 30-9. The Pups took an early 8-4 lead after the first quarter, and expanded on that lead throughout the rest of the game. Preston Jensen and Kaleb Frye led the Pups with 8 points each.

Ekalaka A also got a win in their first game of the season over Sacred Heart, 42-34. Jaden Pardee led all scorers with 21 points.

Against Broadus, Ekalaka B couldn’t quite keep pace as they lost 18-28. Chace Loehding and Wyatt Melton had 6 points each.

In the A game, the Pups went down by 10 at the end of the first quarter. They did outscore Broadus in the second frame, but Broadus widened the gap in the second half and went on to win 54-35. Dillon Gee of Broadus led all scorers with 22 points. Two Pups players had 16 points each.
