Free CNA courses available

For a limited time only, Montana Health Network (MHN) is offering a free on-line Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course as part of a 6-month registered apprenticeship program through the Montana Department of Labor. This four-week course is offered three times for the remainder of 2018. These classes are scheduled to start on October 7, November 4 and December 2.

In order to qualify for a registered apprenticeship, the individual must be a full-time employee of the facility and have or be able to obtain their high school diploma or equivalent. Registration must be received at least one week prior to the start of class.

The non-credit Nursing Assistant course will prepare students for careers in healthcare under the supervision of a licensed registered nurse. Students learn the basic entry-level nursing skills to work in the healthcare setting as a CNA, while gaining hands-on experience through a 6-month mentorship.

Course curriculum includes:

• Providing/assisting in client care

• Bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting

• Ambulation, transferring, feeding

• Use of equipment

• Documentation/reporting

MHN will provide at no charge:

• MHN’s Online Certified Nurse Assistant Course

• Fees for Headmaster Examination

• CNA Textbook

• Mileage paid if student needs to travel to a nearby facility for clinical instruction (case

by case basis)

• Other support services may be available to student if a barrier to employment is evident

• Monitoring of the apprenticeship program

The facility will be responsible for:

• Clinical Instruction and competency check-off for CNA clinicals

• At least six months of mentorship through a registered apprenticeship program

• Reporting to MHN any issues with apprenticeship and completion of program

• Any other expenses related to recruitment, screening, hiring, training or retaining employees
