Museum to co-host star parties

Have you ever looked up at the sky and wondered about what you're looking at? Do you want those questions about the night sky answered? On August 24 and 25 join us for the first ever Carter County Museum Star Party! Hosted in conjunction with Medicine Rocks State Park and Sioux Ranger District, this two evening event will feature stargazing, telescope viewing and digital visualization, as well as exploring how craters are made and experiments with ultraviolet light.

The event will feature long time collaborator with the museum, Steve Hobe, coming to Ekalaka from the Adler Planetarium in Chicago. Steve will host an interactive skywatch telling the stories of the constellations and stars from their Greek and Babylonian origins to modern interpretations of stars and other astronomical objects. Bring your questions regarding the stars, the sky or any of the other objects in our night sky.

It's a wonderful time of year to view some of the planets including Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Bring your own binoculars for a good view and then take a peek through our telescope for a close up! Chairs/blankets and warm clothing recommended.

Activities will begin at 8 p.m. and will continue through 11:30 p.m. On August 24, meet at the Group Area in Medicine Rocks State Park and on August 25 at MacNab Pond. For more details, contact the Carter County Museum at 406-775-6886.
