The Carter County Chamber of Commerce has big plans this summer, as was discussed at the monthly chamber meeting in May.
The first chamber sponsored event on tap this summer is the annual community wide yard sale, scheduled for the first Saturday in June. A sign-up sheet has been posted at Ekalaka Town Office. For a small fee of $10, anyone in the community may sign up to have their yard sale location printed on a map. The map will be printed prior to the June 2 event, and will be readily available at area businesses. This event provides many with a chance to do some spring cleaning and make extra cash for their unwanted items.
A Father’s Day weekend adult kickball tournament is also in the works. Chamber members have discussed the possibility of holding the tournament at Ekalaka Track & Arena. More information will be shared about this fun-filled event as it becomes available.
Also in the planning stages is the July 4 bash and fireworks show in Ekalaka. The chamber is actively seeking donations for the fireworks show. Members are hoping to raise somewhere around $2000 to purchase the fireworks. Additionally, they are encouraging all area businesses to have booths and games on Main Street prior to the show. Main Street will be blocked off for these booths and games, starting at 5:00 p.m. on July 4.
A “Festi-Fall,” properly named by Chamber Vice President Eva Grimes, is also in the initial planning stages. This event will take place early this fall. Chamber members have discussed the possibility of a pumpkin patch, maze, and other fall themed, family-oriented activities taking place at a centralized location. More will be shared on this at a later date as plans are finalized.
In addition to these events, the Carter County Chamber of Commerce is also activity working on changing by-laws and updating its website.
An active Chamber of Commerce needs active members. There are around sixty members currently, though only a small percentage of those attend monthly meetings. New members are always welcome. Membership costs only $35 for businesses and $10 for individuals.
