The Great Mormon Avenue Debate

In regards to the town’s proposal to remove and discard the pavement on Mormon Avenue, the replacement of water and sewer mains, and the resurfacing of the street with gravel, I am totally against the idea. I have a number of concerns in regard to this proposal.

If the pavement is removed and replaced with gravel, I fear, as with the manner in which the other unpaved streets in this town are maintained, it will turn into another muddy, sloppy, boghole that will be next to impassable in wet weather and a rutted pothole filled mess the rest of the time. It would be more effective to repair the pavement that is in place. The job the town has done in the past in patching the holes that appear every Spring is obviously not working. If the people involved in patching the holes are not aware of the proper procedures and materials required to do proper repair work, then they should seek advice from people that have knowledge and experience in these matters. There are people living in this community with the knowledge and experience who could assist, if asked. Otherwise, it is a waste of the Town’s resources to continue as is. It would be cost effective, if the pavement is totally removed, to recycle it for a repavement project. Where is the “Loken” pit located and in who’s opinion is this gravel adequate for the job?

Do the water and sewer mains need to be replaced? Who is going to actually do the replacement? Has this proposed project been properly engineered by a qualified engineer? What will be the cost of this proposed project? How does the Town plan on paying for this project? What kind of a timeline are we looking at for a completion of the project?

These are some of the concerns and questions that I have that need to be addressed before you try to move forward with this project.
