BLM Artifact Roadshows mark Montana Archaeology Month

(MILES CITY, Mont.) – Bring your favorite fossil, rock, artifact or relic to any of the upcoming Artifact Roadshows in Miles City or Ekalaka and see if a professional can help answer your questions.

April is “Montana Archaeology Month” and the Bureau of Land Management is supporting the Montana Archaeological Society with several public events for Big Sky history enthusiasts.

BLM archaeologists will be available at the annual Artifact Roadshows where the public is welcome to bring items from their personal collections to be identified or shared with other history and paleontology buffs.

“We love seeing what the public brings to these shows to share,” said Archaeologist Doug Melton, from the BLM Miles City Field Office. “Eastern Montana’s rich history spans eons. Some folks bring in their treasures, others just come to watch. These roadshows are a popular event and each year they get better.”

Artifact Roadshows have been scheduled for: April 14 (Miles City Public Library, 1-4 p.m.) and April 20 (Carter County Museum, Ekalaka, 1-4 p.m.).

You don’t have to bring in anything to attend, its good fun just watching what comes through the door said Melton. "These events are well-attended and both visitors and staff really enjoy the variety,” said Melton. We’re looking forward to seeing more amazing finds and curiosities this year."
