Carter County 4-H Shooting Sports aims high

Carter County 4-H Shooting Sports is a safe, fun and challenging activity that can become a lifelong passion to be shared with the entire family. The safe and responsible use of firearms and archery equipment is the primary focus of the 4-H Shooting Sports program. This year Carter County members improved their marksmanship skills and learned self-discipline and personal responsibility while working under the watchful eye of certified 4-H shooting sports leaders.

The following individuals received awards for the 2017-2018 Carter County 4-H Shootings Sports season in the rifle category. Top Shooter - Brennen Bonsell; Top Shooter first-year member - Adrian Rios; Most Improved first-year member - April DeFord; Most Improved third-year member - Ethan Frye; Best Form - Sage DeFord; Quigley Award - Kaleb Frye; Old Man Award - Tucker DeFord.

The individuals below received accolades in the Archery category. First Place senior shooter - Kyleigh Bonsell; Second Place senior shooter - Brennen Bonsell; First place junior shooter - Sean Wolenetz; Second Place junior shooter - Cardell Laughery; Third Place junior shooter - Ethan Frye; Most Improved - Chance Loehding; Hard Luck - Jace Pardee; Most X's - Sean Wolenetz; Most Positive - Ethan Frye & Corlan Laughery.

This year Carter County 4-H Shooting Sports received a grant from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to purchase new targets and used matching funds to purchase storage for their equipment.

Due to weather, Carter County's 5th Annual 4-H Shooting Stars Invitational scheduled for February 9 & 10 was canceled. There were 88 youth from 13 counties that were registered to compete. As a result of the support from the shooting sports programs in the surrounding counties, Carter County Leaders will be leading a regional 4-H Shooting Stars Postal Match in lieu of the invitational. This will allow youth from the area to track their scores at a local level and see where they rank compared to other youth in southeast Montana. This postal match will prepare youth for the Montana 4-H State Shoot scheduled for March 2-4 in Bozeman.
