Town of Ekalaka mail ballot election

This year’s General Municipal Election for the Town of Ekalaka will be a mail ballot election. On Thursday, October 19, 2017 the Carter County Clerk and Recorder’s Office will be mailing ballots to all registered active voters who reside within the boundaries of Ekalaka, Montana. Active electors will be able to vote in the privacy of their own homes.

Each registered elector in the Town of Ekalaka will receive an individual ballot packet. The packet will contain an official ballot with candidates of the mayoral race, two council members for four-year terms, and one council member for a two-year term. Electors will vote on their individual ballots, seal them in the secrecy envelope provided in the packet, place the secrecy envelope in the return envelope with the affidavit on its back, and return that envelope to the clerk’s office at the courthouse.

If the voter fails to sign and date the affidavit envelope, their ballot will not be counted. The office will, however, attempt to reach any voter who failed to sign or date.

Polls will not be opened on Election Day; all voted ballots must be returned to the clerk and recorder’s office no later than 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. The ballots may either be hand delivered or mailed to the office at: Box 315, Ekalaka, MT 59324.

If a voter chooses to mail their ballot, they should keep in mind delivery times with the postal service, and mail it early so that it can be delivered before the close of election on November 7.

Voters who reside in the same household must not enclose their ballots together in the same secrecy envelope. Their ballots must be deposited in their own, separate secrecy envelope, which has been provided in the packet.

Should any voter have questions, they may contact the Carter County Clerk and Recorder’s Office. If a ballot is received by mistake or a registered voter does not receive a ballot and should have, call the office at 775-8749. Ballots will be counted on Tuesday evening, November 7, 2017, in the commission meeting room at Carter County Courthouse.
