Blue over black

CCHS lady volleyball continued their win streak last Saturday at home when they took on the Jordan Mustangs. Excluding tournament play on August 26 and September 9, the girls are 5-1 on the season, their only loss coming on September 7 against Wibaux.

This weekend the girls will play Broadus and Circle. Earlier this season, CCHS defeated Broadus. They haven't yet played Circle in a conference game. Then, on October 6, they will travel to Wibaux to face the Longhorns who are the only team sitting above them in the Eastern 2-C standings.

Before varsity action on Saturday, the JV girls had an exciting match of their own. Jordan JV took the first set 25-22 but CCHS rallied back in the second, 25-20. The third set was close until the end, Jordan won though, 15-11. CCHS was able to force a fifth set with strong play in the fourth before losing set number five, 11-15.

Freshman Kari Kittelmann had a great day serving, tallying several aces on serves that were too hot for Mustang players to handle. The match also had quite a few long volleys due to defensive efforts from Rose Rychner, Annette Lovec, and Tylee Loehding. Ella Rucker showed off her leaping ability with a few kills.

CCHS varsity had a strong showing in their win, easily defeating Jordan in three sets. Junior Claire Callahan led the team in kills, tallying 17 of the team's 21. Whitney Kittelmann had 10 of Blue's 16 assists. Tori Tooke and Kennedy Tooke tied for the lead in aces with eight a piece. Kittelmann and Heather LaBree each had three digs.
