Rosalie Anna LaBree Askin, age 91, passed away on August 22, 2017 in St. George, UT. Rosalie was born July 23, 1926, the oldest of 4 children of Frank & Charlotte (Lottie) LaBree of Ismay, MT.
She married Lawrence Lyle (Tuffy) Askin on November 9, 1946 and spent her honeymoon in a sheep wagon since Tuffy was working at a sheep ranch at the time. Rosalie excelled in academics and was advanced a grade, allowing her to graduate high school when only 16. She then took a correspondence course being offered during wartime to earn a teaching certificate and taught in a remote rural school house at only 17.
Later she became a telegraph operator for the railroad in Haugan, MT, near the Idaho border, where she lived and worked before marrying Tuffy when he returned from the Navy. Rosalie and Tuffy lived and reared their children in Montana & Wyoming before finally moving to Las Vegas, NV in 1958 where they remained until retiring to St. George, UT in 1989.
Rosalie is survived by her children, Tommy (Midge) Askin of Las Vegas, NV, Frankye (Larry) Pepito of Cedar City, UT, Jack (Leesa) Askin of Hurricane, UT, 8 grandchildren, Tana Leonard, Jaci Larsen, Darian Kroff, Vincent Pepito, Tarese Bradbury, Alicia Askin, Stephanie Askin, Jack Askin, 15 (and soon to be 16) great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, a brother, Frank LaBree (Billings, MT), and 2 sisters, Marlie (Chub) Askin (Livingston, MT), and Janice Isaacs (Ekalaka, MT).
Rosalie is preceded in death by husband, Tuffy, her parents, daughter Janet Gayle Hawes, and grandson, Timothy Askin.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd, St. George, UT 84770 with interment to follow at Tonaquint Cemetary. For condolences, full obituary, and funeral listings please visit http://www.metcalfmortuary.com.
