Celebrating 100 years of Carter County

Many folks around town have labeled the 2017 Days of '85 one of the biggest in recent memory, along with the quasquicentennial celebration back in 2010. Several new additions to this year's festivities made the 2017 Fair and Rodeo one to remember.

From a karaoke contest on Thursday night to the rodeo on Sunday, the Days of '85 was jam-packed with various events for everyone. Thursday the fairgrounds were busy, and the night was capped with karaoke at Dawg House Pub.

Friday included mud volleyball, pig wrestling, the pet parade, the Firemen's BBQ, barn wood branding, and a street dance with DJ music by the Boisterous Boys (just some of the day's activities).

Saturday included the annual Bump-N-Run, Round Robin and market sale at the fairgrounds, the stick horse rodeo, rodeo, and the Gospel Sing. Saturday night was capped with inflatables on Main Street for the kids to enjoy, as well as a mechanical bull. These additions to the yearly festivities were hits with folks in town. A great free concert and street dance finished the night off, with music by JB and the Moonshine Band.

Sunday morning was the annual Pancake Breakfast at St. Joan of Arc Parish Hall, followed by the parade, which was one of the largest in recent memory-likely in part due to the fact that 2017 was the 100th anniversary of the formation of Carter County.

The annual Sunday jam session drew a great crowd, and people of all ages tried their hands at atlatl throwing outside Carter County Museum. 4-H and FFA awards were given, and the weekend was capped off with one more rodeo. Just the activities mentioned would make this year a busy year-but that was only a portion of the action at this year's fair and rodeo.

Yes, the 2017 Days of '85 Fair and Rodeo was busy and one to remember. Relive some moments of the festivities with pictures throughout this online edition of the Eagle.
