Carter County Fair is sponsoring a free concert on Friday, August 11 at 7:30 p.m. The concert featuring Wylie & the Wild West will take place at Ekalaka Grade School gymnasium.
Wylie Gustafson, band frontman from a ranch near Conrad, MT, is a gifted singer, songwriter, horseman, and yodeler. He has over twenty albums to his credit and has stated that his goal, whether playing for a crowd of five or 5,000, is "to win a crowd and not be boring!"
Since 1989, Wylie & the Wild West has become internationally known, playing thousands of gigs and delighting audiences around the world with their one-of-a-kind brand of music which includes elements of cowboy, traditional country, western swing, folk and yodeling.
The group has appeared on the Grand Ole Opry over 50 times in addition to playing at notable venues including the Library of Congress, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, The Los Angeles Performing Arts Center, and the Stagecoach Festival. Gustafson even appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
Perhaps what he is most known for though, is his world-famous Yahoo!® yodel, which for years could be heard on every Yahoo!® television advertisement. As one music writer summed it up when it comes to Wylie & the Wild West, "Forget everything you hate about modern country, this guy is all old school cool without being a tired period piece."
