The Southeast Electric Essay Scholarship is a $1000.00 scholarship sponsored by Southeast Electric Cooperative, Inc. This year's recipient is Leah Harrington.
Harrington was asked to cite and discuss a quote or passage that has special meaning to her. She chose "Through Perseverance the Snail reached Noah's Ark," stating that she has faced many obstacles in life and by God's grace and determination she has learned to persevere.
In 2008, Harrington received a kidney transplant from her father. She has worked very hard to overcome all of her physical limitation and is always striving to do more. Harrington is the daughter of Troy & Debbie Harrington of Hammond, MT. Her plans for the fall are to attend Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD.
The Basin Electric Power Cooperative Scholarship is a $1000.00 scholarship sponsored by Basin Electric Power Cooperative and Southeast Electric Cooperative Inc. Jaclyn Ketchum is the 2017 recipient of this scholarship.
Ketchum was asked to describe how a strong and united cooperative community supports and serves her hometown. Ketchum chose Ekalaka's 2016 Christmas storm as an example. Power was off for most of that day and Southeast Electric employees braved the storm to make sure the power was back on, even though it was Christmas.
Many of the linemen missed Christmas with their families. She stated that these men are not only strong members of the cooperative, but also of the community. Ketchum is the daughter of Bruce & Tena Ketchum of Plevna. Ketchum plans to continue her education at Kansas State University where she is majoring in animal science.
MECA Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by Montana Electric Cooperative Association and is funded from donations provided in memory of rural electric directors, employees and friends. Southeast Electric Cooperative selects a scholarship finalist and submits that application to the MECA Scholarship Committee.
They choose one $500 scholarship recipient from MECA Southeast District; including Goldenwest Electric in Wibaux, Mid-Yellowstone Electric in Hysham, Tongue River Electric in Miles City, Yellowstone Valley Electric in Huntley, and Southeast Electric. This year's recipient is Haylee Barkley, daughter of Todd & Molly Barkley of Baker, MT. Barkley will be furthering her education at MSU Bozeman.
SECO Linemen Scholarship: This year Southeast Electric Cooperative, Inc. decided to sponsor two $1,000.00 scholarships to two deserving persons planning to enroll in a Power Line Construction and Maintenance curriculum at an accredited Tech School. The applicant must reside within the co-ops service territory and must be a graduating high school senior or have graduated from high school and be planning to attend an accredited Tech School to pursue a career in Power Line Construction and Maintenance.
2017 recipients are David Pierson and Quentin Reynolds. Pierson is a 2017 CCHS graduate and has been accepted to Mitchell Technical Institute.
Reynolds is a 2016 CCHS graduate and has also been accepted to Mitchell Technical Institute. Southeast Electric wishes both young men well in their pursuit of further education.
