CCHS music department has successful festival season

The Carter County High School music department, under the direction of Mr. Brad Wick, has wrapped up festival competitions with amazing results. Every entry performed at District 10 Music Festival in Miles City April 21 and 22 received a superior rating. This includes concert band and concert choir, as well as their sight reading.

For sight reading, the conductor is given several songs from which to select a piece for the choir or band to perform. This is a song the group has never seen nor rehearsed. The conductor has several minutes to look through the piece then he has a short amount of time to discuss it with the band or choir before they perform the song.

CCHS had nine solo and ensemble entries that received district superiors and then competed at state May 5 and 6 at Billings West High School. Joe McHenry performed a bass clarinet solo and received an excellent rating at state, missing a superior by just one point. Receiving superiors at district and state festival were the following performances: Kennedy Tooke, vocal solo; Jaelee Strangford, tenor saxophone solo; Hannah LaBree, trombone solo; Heather LaBree, French horn solo; Glen Frye, trumpet solo; Kimberlee Elmore, vocal solo; Kennedy Tooke and Whitney Kittelmann, vocal duet; and a vocal quartet of Glen Frye, Tanner Fix, Kennedy Tooke, and Whitney Kittelmann. All performances were accompanied by Mrs. Cathy Frye.

The music department is thankful to all the friends and family who traveled to Miles City and Billings to support these fine young musicians.
