The Forsyth Dogies handed the Bulldogs a big loss, 12-50, in what was basically a conference championship game in Forsyth last Friday. The Dogies scored early and often with a running attack where they continually tried to out-flank the Bulldogs with outside runs. The Bulldog defense was indeed porous, and most of Forsyth’s runs gashed Blue for big yardage. The Bulldog offense was held scoreless for most of the game, but did manage a couple of late touchdowns. One came after a good drive when the Dogies still had all of t...
The CCHS Bulldogs won their homecoming football game, defeating the Broadus Hawks 56-28 at Rowley Field on September 22nd. The Bulldog offense was cruising, but struggles on defense kept their opponent in the contest until the fourth quarter. Blue used a thirteen play drive to score after the opening kickoff. The drive was capped by a 4-yard run from quarterback Chace Loehding, who returned this week after seeing limited time earlier this season due to injury. Loehding also...

The Bulldogs traveled to Lame Deer on Friday for a game that counted only as a junior varsity contest, though both teams had varsity players suited. The Bulldogs handily won, securing a running clock by halftime when the score was 44-8. The game allowed younger players to get some playing time while also allowing older players to work on specific skills. The Dawgs also played a 3-4 defense for the entirety of the game - the third different defensive front they have shown so...
A referee mix-up (or possible shortage) led to an interesting situation during the varsity football contest between CCHS and Lodge Grass on September 8th in Lodge Grass. Only one MHSA official made it to the game, so two individuals were pulled from the Indians' sideline and two were pulled from the Bulldogs' sideline. This ensured that all of the officials for the contest had proper training on concussions and CPR. CCHS assistant coach Eric Lovec, left, stood in as the back...

The Bulldogs played the Panthers on a humid football evening in Park City last Friday. The game was initially scheduled to be a home game at Rowley Field, but due to a ref shortage, it was moved to Park City. The only refs available for the contest were out of Billings. The Bulldogs didn't look good early. After a poor showing in a big loss the prior week in Wibaux, it initially looked like it was going to be more of the same for Blue. The 'Dogs had several false starts on...
After JV and varsity losses in Terry last Thursday night, the Lady ‘Dogs varsity volleyball team finished second at an all-day tournament on Saturday. The next three sets were 14-25, 14-16, and 7-15. In the varsity match, CCHS won the first set 25-13, and then lost the next three; 14-15, 23-25, and 23-25. The CCHS Lady Bulldogs' season ended with a pair of losses at the Montana Class C State Tournament in Billings last week. It might not have been the successful end to the season they had hoped for, but the season was still a success as CCHS finished with a 20-5 overall record. Over the course of the year, Lady Blue lost to Class B Baker twice, on January 10th and January 31st. Baker finished third in the state Class B tourney. The girls' third loss came on March 4th to...

Five-for-six. The CCHS Lady Bulldogs have now made it to the Montana Class C State Girls' Basketball Tournament five times in the last six years. That's a pretty impressive stat by almost any standard. Last year it took a Monday challenge game and eventual six-point win for the Lady 'Dogs to get to the state tournament. It was a game versus rival Jordan in which CCHS essentially won at the free throw line. This year, CCHS didn't need the challenge game to get there. The Lady...
A young CCHS Bulldog basketball squad that made strides throughout the year saw their season come to an end at the district tournament at Miles City on February 18th at Custer County District High School. The final varsity roster for the 4C District tourney was composed of two seniors, two juniors, three sophomores and five freshman. The youngsters didn't go down without a dog fight against the Terriers on February 16th. It was ultimately a slow start and offensive woes that...
Last year, the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Jordan Lady Mustangs twice during the regular season, lost to them at the District 4C Tournament by two points in overtime, and then won a challenge game against them in the Southern C Divisional to advance to state. CCHS also faced Jordan at the Southern C Divisional in 2021 and lost by seven points in overtime. Fast forward to this year. CCHS beat Jordan both times during the regular season on their way to a district title. In...
