GIRLS The CCHS Lady Bulldogs have won their last four contests, all against conference opponents. This Friday, the girls will play a non-conference game in Baker. The Lady Bulldogs played two games last weekend. On Friday at home, the girls played a close contest against the Class B Baker Spartans. CCHS was outscored by two in the first quarter and five in the second. They kept within striking distance, but never could quite close the gap, eventually losing 37-44. Last weekend, Carter County High School basketball teams traveled to Lavina to play in a tournament. In their first game of the tournament—and the season—the Bulldog men took on a more experienced Westby-Grenora team. Although CCHS had six turnovers in the first quarter, compared to only one for the Thunder, they were down only one point at the end of the period. The CCHS girls basketball team started their season last weekend at a tournament in Lavina. Against Winnett-Grass Range, the girls were down by one going into the half, 17-18. In the third quarter, a low shooting percentage from the field led to Blue being down by eight. They were then outscored by nine in the fourth quarter. CCHS did shoot a better percentage from the free-throw line than their opponent, 63% to 33%. They also kept the turnover battle relatively even, committing 18 and forcing 15. For the past five years, the Ekalaka junior high girls have been in every championship game at the year-end-tournament held in Miles City, winning three of them. This year was no exception. On Friday November 17, the Ekalaka junior high boys basketball team traveled to Miles City to play at Sacred Heart in a tournament. The boys competed against the Jordan Mustangs in their only game. In the first quarter, Ekalaka struggled to get any offense going. Their only field goal was a two-pointer from Jaden Pardee. On November 14, 1953, CCHS football won the Eastern Montana C Football Championship, completing the team's only undefeated season. That year, there was no six-man state championship. The game was played in Ekalaka, as was the divisional championship played the week before against Sacred Heart, which CCHS won 56 to 6. The CCHS Bulldogs finished their 2017 volleyball season at the Eastern C Divisional Tournament in Sidney last weekend. CCHS men finished their football season on a high note last Thursday afternoon when they defeated Froid-Medicine Lake by a wide margin. The win was the second win for Blue in five days, giving them a 2-7 record to finish the season. The Bulldogs will graduate one senior this year, Cameron Wolenetz. The Bulldogs showed improvement on Friday night during their last home game of the season versus the Jordan Mustangs. It was tough sledding for the Bulldogs during their homecoming game against Westby-Grenora last Friday night at Rowley Field. The Thunder, who are the number one ranked team in the state, primarily run a spread offense with a heavy emphasis on passing.
