The Ekalaka Summer Series children's rodeos concluded Monday night with barrel racing, pole bending and ribbon racing. The series is an excellent way for young riders to gain confidence going into this Saturday's Youth Rodeo in Ekalaka. Children from Marmarth, Rhame, Baker and around Carter County competed. The 5th Annual Summit Basketball Camp, named after the legendary women's college basketball coach Pat Summit, was held last week in Ekalaka. This year over 130 campers participated. Sophomore Wyatt Kittelmann and senior Kyleigh Bonsell both excelled in track this year and advanced to the state track and field meet in Great Falls last weekend. Kittelmann participated in the 110 meter hurdles and Bonsell in the 300 meter hurdles. Junior Benjamin Tuinstra of Valley Christian won the mens 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.54. In their first game at the state tournament, CCHS was down only four points heading into the fourth quarter. It was late in the quarter when Plentywood was finally able to get some separation. Last weekend, the CCHS Lady Bulldogs defeated Plenty Coups, Bridger, and Harlowton/Ryegate to secure the Montana Southern C Divisional Championship. This weekend, the team will travel to Butte for the state tournament. Their first game is against Plentywood at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As the number one seed at the District 4C Tournament, the Lady Bulldogs easily took down the Jordan mustangs in the first round. They outscored Jordan 24-4 in the first quarter. CCHS Boys Varsity narrowly pulled off the win against the Custer/Hysham Rebels last Tuesday. The game was pretty close throughout. Both teams had similar numbers in rebounds and turnovers. CCHS Girls Basketball won three games last week and are currently in first place in the district. On Tuesday, the girls played Custer/Hysham at home, a game that was postponed earlier in the season. The girls had no problem as they took a 14 point lead in the first quarter while holding the Rebels scoreless. They eventually won, 54-14. The CCHS Lady Bulldogs had no problem taking down the Jordan Mustangs last Friday in Ekalaka. The girls had a 15 point lead by the end of the first quarter. The lead was 22 by the end of the game, and provided an opportunity for some reserves to play key minutes that could become valuable at tournament time.
