The 2018 Bulldog Jr. High Volleyball had a great season. There are 17 girls, fifth through eighth grade. Practice started the first day of school, and their last game was on October 1. The Bulldog defense couldn't get any stops in the first quarter at Savage last Friday night. Savage seemingly moved the ball at will and had a 32-6 heading into the second. CCHS was shorthanded due to injuries and ineligibility, and several players had to play new positions. In the second quarter, the Dogs got into a rhythm on offense. CCHS Volleyball defeated the Broadus Hawks in three straight sets on Saturday, 25-21, 25-18 and 25-15. As a team, the Bulldogs had 40 kills, 33 digs, 30 assists, 15 aces and 4 blocks. Last Friday, CCHS volleyball played JV and varsity matches against Jordan for homecoming. In the JV contest, CCHS battled but came up short, losing their first two sets, 23-25 and 20-25. Carter County High School Varsity Volleyball won nine straight sets on September 8, securing first place at a volleyball tournament held in Scobey. To place in pool play, CCHS played one set to 25 against three different teams. Blue won all three of those sets and entered an 8 team single elimination tournament in first place. Last year, CCHS kicked off their football season against the Richey/Lambert Fusion and lost 6-68. This year, Blue took on the Fusion in week two of the regular season. CCHS came out of the gates quickly as senior Caleb Fix ran the opening kickoff back 73 yards for a touchdown. The Dogs failed to convert the extra point try. CCHS started this year's football season on the right foot with a strong win against the Froid/Medicine Lake Red Hawks last Friday. The Red Hawks came out in a tight formation and were stuffed repeatedly by the Dogs run defense. The Ekalaka Junior High Pups kicked off football in Ekalaka last Friday afternoon when they took on Froid/Medicine Lake. The game was close and low scoring in the first half, 6-6. In the second half, Blue was unable to find the end zone, eventually losing 6-27. The Pups were able to get some yards threw the air as eighth graders Tucker Tooke and Sean Wolenetz combined to complete a total of four passes. Tooke was the only Pup to find the end zone. CCHS football players Mick O'Connor, Max Larson and Caleb Fix all participated at the Leaders, Legends and Legacies Football Camp in Belgrade, MT last week. The players took part in three days of field drills, talks and speed and strength drills. Players from all over Montana, South Dakota and Wyoming attended the camp where they learned football and life skills from current and previous college and NFL players. The Ekalaka Summer Series children's rodeos concluded Monday night with barrel racing, pole bending and ribbon racing. The series is an excellent way for young riders to gain confidence going into this Saturday's Youth Rodeo in Ekalaka. Children from Marmarth, Rhame, Baker and around Carter County competed. The 5th Annual Summit Basketball Camp, named after the legendary women's college basketball coach Pat Summit, was held last week in Ekalaka. This year over 130 campers participated. Sophomore Wyatt Kittelmann and senior Kyleigh Bonsell both excelled in track this year and advanced to the state track and field meet in Great Falls last weekend.
