CCHS Volleyball rallied back at home after losing their first two sets of the season to beat Circle 3-2 last Friday. The Bulldogs lost the first set, 18-25 and the second, 22-25. On July 20, Ekalaka Track and Arena held their annual youth rodeo and ranch rodeo. In addition to the event winners in the youth rodeo, all-around winners for each age group received buckles. Hannah and Heather LaBree were recently named 2019 SaWUSA (Student Athlete World USA) co-Student-Athletes of the Year. Hannah and Heather are rising seniors at CCHS. They competed on SaWUSA's Under 19 Women's Basketball team that took home the silver medal at the United World Games in Austria earlier this summer. Carter County Bulldog Mick O'Connor was the 2019 John Wayne True Grit MVP $1000 scholarship award winner at the 2019 Leaders, Legends, and Legacies Football Camp held in Belgrade, Montana this June. On June 22, forty-five guests spent a fun-filled day outdoors at Springhill Ranch near Wibaux at the inaugural BBs & Bows in the Badlands event for youths and their families. The kids shot BB guns and bows, used radio telemetry to track swift fox collars, learned how to identify wildlife tracks, handled live snakes, prepared Dutch oven desserts and enjoyed a campfire supper. The 6th Annual Summit Basketball Camp, named after the legendary women’s college basketball coach Pat Summit, was held June 20-22 in Ekalaka. This year over 130 campers participated. Fourteen super stock cars, three pickups and five modified cars raced at Ekalaka's bump-n-run at the airport on Saturday. A cool, rainy day resulted in a muddy track that needed no extra water on it to keep the dust down. The day featured two heats of super stock and one of modified, followed by the main races. The Bulldogs headed into the Southern C Divisional as a three seed after an exciting consolation win over Broadus at districts. In their tourney opener they played Park City.
