The CCHS Bulldogs volleyball squad started their season at home last Saturday versus the Broadus Hawks. Broadus won the match in three sets, 18-25, 24-26 and 22-25. Codi Melton, Kenzie Tooke and Tylee Loehding each had one ace for the Dogs. Tooke also had 4 of the team's 17 kills and 1 block. The Carter County Bulldogs played their first football game of the season in Fairview against the defending Montana 8-Man state champion Warriors last Friday night. Shortly after last week’s paper was printed, several changes were made to the Carter County Bulldogs’ fall sports schedule. The football schedule was revamped after St. Labre, Lodge Grass and Lame Deer opted out and will not play football this season due to COVID-19 concerns. With three teams out, the entire Eastern C Division has seen several changes in scheduling. A team of eleven scrappy softball players from Ekalaka traveled to Camp Crook last Friday to take on eleven of Camp Crook's finest in what was a game for the ages. A few year's back, Crook put in a field on the outskirts of town, and the Hard Pan Ranch League was born. Since then, Crook regularly holds pickup games on Friday nights as ranching allows, and occasionally a few Ekalaka players travel over and play. Temperatures reached ninety-two degrees during the youth rodeo at Ekalaka Track and Arena on Saturday. The annual June Ekalaka Bump-N-Run was hot and dusty this year. The day of racing saw fourteen super stock cars and 6 modified cars. Races included two heats of super stock and one of modified. For the third time in as many seasons, the CCHS Lady Bulldogs are headed to the Montana State Class C Girls Basketball Tournament. Last year, the girls lost to eventual state champion Box Elder in the first round, defeated Charlo in a Friday loser-out contest, and lost on Saturday morning to the Scobey Spartans. In the first game of the District 4C tourney, the Lady Bulldogs easily defeated the Lady Hawks by 33 points. The girls led 14-2 at the end of the first. Seven Dogs scored; 3 in double figures. The Bulldogs opened their District 4C Tournament play against Northern Cheyenne. Blue started slow and had only a one point lead after the first quarter, but put up 21 points in the second to take a 12 point lead at halftime. The Annual Knights of Columbus District Free Throw contest was held February 23 at McGonigal Gym in Baker. Contestants shot twenty-five free throws. Scores from the shoot off will be sent on to the Montana State Knights of Columbus Council to be compared to shooters from around the state. Eight Bulldog players scored on senior night as CCHS defeated Terry by 25 points last Friday in Ekalaka. On Valentine's Day 2020, the CCHS Lady Bulldogs improved their record to 11-6 on the season with a win over the Terry Terriers. The game seemed a fitting home finale for a senior class that has seen a great deal of success during their time at CCHS. The Dogs were up 37-6 at halftime and went on to win 63-8.
