    (TERRY, Mont.) – The Steppler Ranch of Culbertson, Mont., came out the season winners after the Eastern Montana Ranch Rodeo Finals in Terry, Mont., on Sept. 11. All year round, dozens of teams compete in a series of EMRRF sanctioned ranch rodeos throughout the region to earn points toward the year end championship; with points totaled at the conclusion of the finals.     The Bulldogs were originally scheduled to play a conference game in St. Labre last week, but since St. Labre canceled its season the school scheduled a non-conference game at home versus Park City. Blue was able to drive the ball some early, although Park City's defensive front was wreaking havoc on the Dogs' running game. In the first half, three Bulldog drives stalled out in the red zone.     The CCHS varsity volleyball team beat the Terriers in three straight sets to win their match in Terry on September 9. The girls won 25-17, 25-17, 25-9. As a team, the Lady Bulldogs had 34 digs and 26 kills. Codi Melton tied with Heidi LaBree for the team lead in aces (3).     High school volleyball had a busy weekend with matches at home versus Circle on Friday and in Wibaux on Saturday. The girl's junior varsity squad kicked things off with a tightly contested set against Circle, eventually winning 27-25. However, CCHS went on to drop the next three sets and lose the match.     The Bulldogs won a barn burner versus the Circle Wildcats on Friday night at Rowley Field. Both offenses were finding success with the run game, especially in the second half. There were three scores all within 1:34 at one point in the fourth quarter. The pivotal moment in the game proved to be in the final two minutes of the first half.     Three CCHS athletes competed at the MHSA Class C State Track and Field Meet in Missoula over the weekend. Freshman Ethan Frye competed on the men's side. Fellow freshman Brynn Loehding competed on the women's side, as did sophomore Katie Tooke. Frye ran a 19.47 in the 110 meter hurdle prelims, missing out on the finals.     Due to the lack of a field in Ekalaka, there will not be any local youth or adult baseball or softball this year. Tee-ball, usually beginning on the first Wednesday in May, last had a season in 2019 when over thirty kids were a part of the program. Local baseball and softball supporters have been working to get a new ball field in Ekalaka since the county elected to fence off the old field that sat between the fairgrounds and high school football field.
