    A group of community members has put in the legwork to put on a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Ekalaka.     Last Thursday the unified school board for Ekalaka Public Schools approved distance learning during the entire week of Thanksgiving. In total, the school is closed for two and a half days this week; Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning. School was already scheduled to be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday from Wednesday afternoon through the rest of the week.     A whopping ninety-four percent of the 926 registered voters in Carter County cast ballots in the 2020 Federal General Election. That number is up substantially from a 78 percent voter turnout in 2018 and 84 percent in 2016. Precinct 3, which includes Hammond and Boyes, had the best percentage at 97.6.     A fire that started on Monday approximately sixteen miles south of Ekalaka on Highway 323 burned 3,177 acres. The fire was aided by high winds and jumped the highway, making it to Box Elder Creek. Four different producers had land burned. The fire was about six miles long and one mile wide.
