    Rita (Babb) Knipfer is the last of Nora (Turbiville) Knipfer's children and spouses alive. Rita is the widow of the late Ernest Knipfer.   • Veteran's Memorial Park receives additional funding

    Organizers and planners of Ekalaka Veteran’s Memorial Park thank TC Energy Foundation for donating $3,000 towards the project. TC Energy has been a generous contributor for community development in the area. The park will be located in Perso Park on Main Street. It will have a masonry reflecting wall and a patio with three benches facing the wall. The wall will include the seals of the branches of the military.     Plans for the Days of ‘85 are continuing as the event draws nearer. The annual fair and rodeo is slated for August 12th through August 15th this year. On Thursday, sheep dog trials will be taking place at Ekalaka Track and Arena. On Friday at noon the pet parade will begin at the fairgrounds.     This year’s Days of ‘85 parade is quickly approaching. With the fair only four weeks away, now is the time for businesses, ranches, churches, organizations and classes to start brainstorming float ideas. “Hometown Heroes” is this year’s fair and parade theme.     Wrangling up nearly 100 Lovecs and getting them to stand still long enough to take a picture is no easy task, as evidenced in the photo at left. The 2021 Emil and Eula Lovec Reunion took place July 1st through July 4th at Camp Needmore outside Ekalaka.   • Aging water mains to be replaced next summer

    The Town of Ekalaka plans to use over $1.6 million in combined funding to replace nearly one mile of aging water lines. Construction is scheduled to take place in the summer of 2022, according to a preliminary engineering report completed by Great West Engineering of Billings. An anticipated bid date is early next spring. The project focuses on replacing old cast iron pipe lines with PVC, starting with sections that are the highest priority.     Ekalaka received 0.55 inches of precipitation in June, the third least on record, according to National Weather Service data. The only Junes the area has received less came in 1933 (0.53 inches) and 1949 (0.49 inches). Ekalaka had 1.14 inches in June of ‘88. The all-time average precipitation for the month of June in Ekalaka is 3.12 inches. The average high temperature this June was also the second hottest recorded at 89.9 degrees.     Postmaster Becky Jesperson retired from the U.S. Postal Service on May 28, 2021 after thirty-five years of service. A retirement celebration was held for her at the Ekalaka Post Office on June 25. Jesperson started her career in 1986 as a clerk at the Ekalaka Post Office.
