The Ekalaka Bump-N-Run Association had its race on Saturday, August 14th. There were 10 stock and 7 modified drivers with a total of two heat races for both classes and an 'A' main. All in all, the day went well. It was a little warm but the track was in good shape considering the dry conditions this year. The schoolhouse in Alzada is one of only a few one-room schoolhouses left in the country. After spending nine months at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center, local Dennis Bishop returned home last Thursday. Bishop, pictured above with his wife Trish, developed Guillain-Barré syndrome after contracting COVID-19 last October. He had been in Minneapolis since November 5th. A record crowd was entertained during the 2021 Carter County Fair Pet Parade last Friday. Seventeen entries consisted of a variety of pets. The animals included a duck, a goat, a Highlander, horses, a llama, a pony, sheep and dogs of all shapes and sizes. Hometown Heroes, being the theme, brought up many hilarious, clever and heartfelt entries. As summer is waning and school is starting, First Baptist Church is happy to announce the return of AWANA clubs. Beginning September 8th, clubs will meet every Wednesday for the duration of the school year. Carter County Museum's 9th Annual Dino Shindig was well attended this year as the event continues to be one of the more anticipated summer events in Ekalaka. This year, forty-three volunteers worked a total of 850 hours to make the Shindig possible. Attendance at the museum throughout the entire week of the Shindig was impressive as 563 people stopped in to check out everything CCM has to offer. The Lyle Strobel Family Band is the entertainment this year for the Days of '85 Gospel Sing. They hail from the Absarokee/Columbus area. One member of the group is an old hand from Ekalaka in another life. Brook Anderson is the newest member of the band. Both Lyle and Irene Strobel grew up in a world of music. Area military veterans are invited to ride on the veterans float in the Days of ‘85 parade, Sunday, August 15. Carter County Museum will be opening its warehouses to the public during the Days of ‘85. The warehouses, located just south of town on Hwy 323, will be open from 10 a.m. to 2p.m. on Saturday, August 14. Warehouse 1 includes over 80 percent of museum fossils and some historical artifacts that are not on display in the museum. Everything from detailed cleaning and stabilizing fossils to making custom protective cradles for the specimens occurs in this warehouse. The 9th Annual Dino Shindig took place over the weekend in Ekalaka. Numbers of attendees for events were up across the board from last year. Two hundred fifty-seven people attended talks and museum activities on Saturday and the museum beat its fundraising goal in the online auction.
