On Saturday, July 13th, the Sioux Ranger District of the Custer Gallatin National Forest experienced a thunderstorm event with winds exceeding 100mph. On the Forest, this storm system caused damage to some developed sites, power outages, and has blocked roads trails particularly in the Ekalaka Hills, Long Pines, and East Short Pines land units. One hundred three Emil and Eula Lovec descendants congregated at Camp Needmore near Ekalaka over the 4th of July holiday weekend for the clans biannual reunion. Four generations were in attendance over the course of the 3 day gathering. Emil and Eula had eight children, those eight had 22 children, those 22 have 50 children so far, and those 50 have 11 children so far.
