The ambulance service in Ekalaka has very few EMTs. They range in age from age twenty-four to 70+, and most have other full time jobs. Counting illness and medical leave, there are currently only four people who can take calls. An average month has 1,440 hours which need to be covered by a two-person crew for the ambulance. There are times when there are no names on the call sheet. When this happens any EMT that can respond does - whether it's the middle of the day or night....

Montana State University recently announced its undergraduate honor rolls for fall semester 2021. There are two MSU honor roll lists: the President’s List and the Dean’s List. Tragedy struck on January 12 north of Ekalaka when a young female died in a rollover crash on Highway 7. The 23-year-old was driving north, near mile marker 12, when she lost control of the car she was driving and struck a bridge railing. The vehicle went off the right side of the road and overturned. Montana native, Jake Eshelman, recently took the role as brand inspector for the southeastern Montana counties of Carter, Fallon and Wibaux. As a brand inspector he will be handling grazing permits, supervising deputy and local brand inspectors, doing horse inspections and acting as law enforcement personnel for the Department of Livestock. Readers of the Eagle may have recently noticed an ad in the paper seeking local ranchers who are willing to donate beef to Ekalaka Public Schools for the lunch program. On December 20th, the first beef donation was dropped off at the school by Abbey Bruski of Beaver Creek Homegrown. Around fifty members of the community enjoyed a free holiday meal and some Christmas entertainment at Wagon Wheel Café on Tuesday evening. Earlier this year, VFW Auxiliary set up Beaver Lodge Cemetery with Wreaths Across America for fallen veterans. There are 250 veterans buried at the cemetery. Because of a time crunch the auxiliary wasn’t able to do a fundraiser for the wreaths, which cost $15 each. Twelve of them were sent, along with an American flag and several U.S. military service flags.
