The cover photograph was taken by Mr. Jaden Pardee, as were many of the background pictures in the book. The book is very much a group effort, with students supplying numerous photos of events, dances and games. A 19-year-old Ashland man died early Monday morning in a one-vehicle rollover crash near Broadus, according to the Montana Highway Patrol. The man had previously competed in the match bronc ride at Ekalaka held Sunday afternoon. A 20-year-old area resident was a passenger in the vehicle. He was injured in the crash and taken to a hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota. According to the Montana Highway Patrol, the driver was traveling west along Highway 212 at 3:27 a.m. in a Ford F250. Corlan Laughery did a demonstration on how to make a PB&J sandwich. Roll call was, “What is your favorite summer activity?” Three of our 4-H members went on the Oreo trip to Medora. The annual VFW Auxiliary quilt raffle drawing will not be held on July 4th. Instead, it has been postponed until Sagebrush Service Club’s Christmas Bazaar scheduled for November 20, 2023 at Carter County High School. As of 5 p.m. Tuesday evening, Ekalaka had recorded 6.34 inches of precipitation throughout the month of June, according to the National Weather Service. Heavy rains on Monday and Tuesday even led to some areas of localized flooding. Between 5 p.m. Monday evening and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 2.39 inches fell. Emswiler Pool is scheduled to open this Friday, June 16th at 1 p.m. Last year the town's swimming pool opened on June 27th. It did not open at all in 2021. The Mark Wright benefit was a huge success. As of Tuesday, over $17,000 has been donated. Southeast Electric Cooperative has planned a power outage for customers on the Ekalaka substation for the night of Tuesday, June 20th, and into the following morning. Power may be off from approximately 10 p.m. on June 20th to 6 a.m. on June 21st. The planned outage is necessary to make repairs to the Ekalaka substation. Each year the Knights of Columbus sponsors a free throw contest for girls and boys ages 9 through 14. The contest proceeds in several steps. The first step is the council competition in which contestant shoots 15 free throws in a row. Ekalaka Volunteer Fire Department and Ekalaka area EMTs are hosting a free will pancake supper in support of longtime fire chief and community supporter Mark Wright.
