The Ekalaka Bump-n-Run race was held August 10th this year. It was a nice day that brought 21 cars to the races. Limited, BGM, and Modified were the three classes that they were split up into. A large group of area producers attended the Carter County Commission meeting on Monday in Ekalaka to explain to the commissioners the current drought situation they are facing. The Annual Days of ‘85 Firemen’s Barbecue will be taking place at a different location this year. On July 13th, the Sioux Ranger District of the Custer Gallatin National Forest experienced a thunderstorm event with winds exceeding 100mph, causing damage to some developed sites, power outages, as well as blocked roads and trails. Anna Heggen LaBree In 1884, Anna Heggen LaBree's grandfather Edward Heggen filed his homestead three miles NE of Ekalaka. He and his brother George helped build some of the first buildings in Ekalaka. George Heggen's broad ax used for these buildings is currently in the Carter County Museum.
