Readers of the Eagle may have recently noticed an ad in the paper seeking local ranchers who are willing to donate beef to Ekalaka Public Schools for the lunch program. On December 20th, the first beef donation was dropped off at the school by Abbey Bruski of Beaver Creek Homegrown. Employees at Dahl Memorial Healthcare recently rolled up their sleeves, grabbed some icing and gumdrops and competed in a gingerbread house decorating contest. The houses are currently on display at the front desk of the hospital and ready for voting. Community members can stop in and vote between now and December 31st. Around fifty members of the community enjoyed a free holiday meal and some Christmas entertainment at Wagon Wheel Café on Tuesday evening. The café provided the main course with all the fixings while several who attended brought in dessert for all to enjoy. It all began when a local teacher, Mr. Whitney, received a special delivery letter from Santa Claus at the North Pole. Santa asked if Mr. Whitney and his students could make a very special mailbox that would be used just for children to put letters to Santa into. This would ensure that Santa and his elves received the letters as soon as possible. Mr. Whitney found the old mailbox in the school library, where it was being used as a book drop. Due to rising costs, Eagle subscription rates will increase on January 1. The cost for an in-county subscription will be $40 and the cost for an out-of-county subscription will be $45. Subscribers who wish to save money by purchasing a three-year subscription will still have the opportunity to do so. The Eagle will publish its Christmas issue on December 24th. Letters to Santa and greetings from businesses and individuals will be included in that issue. The issue dated December 31st will correspond with the usual date between Christmas and the new year that the Ekalaka Eagle is not published. The issue dated January 7th will be the first paper of the new year. All ads and correspondence for that issue need to be in by noon on Tuesday, January 4th. Sagebrush Service Club is once again sponsoring a Christmas lighting contest. Judges will be out and about on Thursday, December 16 this year and would like townsfolk to have their lights on by 5:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the top three residences as well as the top business. The children of Rodney and Tracey Walker (CCHS Class of 1980) pulled off a surprise joint birthday party for their parents on Saturday at Carter County Events Center in Ekalaka. The couple spent the day in Belle Fourche, where they had attended a funeral earlier, with their son Travis Walker. On November 17th, students in Mrs. Carol Spencer's fifth grade class at Ekalaka Public Schools hosted a Native American Artifacts Museum in the gym. A Veterans Day program took place at Carter County High School on November 11. Several local veterans were in attendance. Six were 'adopted' by different Ekalaka Public Schools classes. Each class made posters for their veterans based off of interviews with them. This past weekend, the Carter County FFA chapter traveled to Bozeman to compete in the 10th Annual Montana FFA Ag Expo, sponsored by Montana John Deere Dealers: C&B Operations, Frontline Ag Solutions, and RDO Equipment Co. Carter County Chamber of Commerce is scheduled to meet this Thursday, November 18th, at 5:50 p.m. inside Stompin’ Grounds. Carter County Museum received a grant from the Montana Land Title Association Foundation for $1,000 this month to assist in the operation of CCM and its showcasing of the rich history of Montana. Dahl Memorial Healthcare Association officially moved into the new Carter County Healthcare Facility this week. Dahl employees had been moving what they could over the last several days before the bulk of the moving started on Tuesday at noon when the clinic, lab, radiology, pharmacy and emergency room services officially closed in the old facility.
