There were eleven stock and 7 modified drivers with two heats in the stock and one in the modified. Both A Main races followed. It was a good day of racing for the drivers and the spectators. After a six-year investigation, seven people have been charged in connection to an illegal hunting scheme centered around a ranch in Carter County. While most of the defendants in the case are from out of state, at least one is a Carter County resident. The family moved to Montana in 1950 when Harlan was 15 and started the Medicine Rocks Ranch. In 1963 Harlan left the ranch and opened a repair shop and used car dealership in Ekalaka. The first of two anticipated trials in the homicide investigation of Fallon resident Isaac Carrier is set to begin in August and has been moved to Dawson County, and those called for jury duty will need to plan on commuting. The area is farming country and Irving wanted to do ranching. At that time there were ranches available in the Ekalaka area so they moved to the area in 1949 and purchased the Pruess ranch 10 miles north of Ekalaka. They named it Medicine Rocks Ranch due to the beautiful neighboring scenery which later became a state park....
The Bluestems are a band of brothers and sisters from Elgin, North Dakota. These youngsters have entertained at festivals and fairs throughout North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Montana. The Gumbo Gophers 4-H Club held their June meeting on the 11th at the Alzada Hall. Market sheep and goat weigh-ins were held before the meeting. Plans for the Days of ‘85 are continuing as the event draws nearer. The annual county fair and rodeo is quickly approaching and will take place August 10th through August 13th. On Thursday, August 10th, sheep dog trials will be taking place at Ekalaka Track and Arena. A silent auction will begin at the library and animal shows will also be taking place. From the youngest to the oldest attendees at the Dino Shindig July 22-23 in Ekalaka, the participants were fascinated by the speakers from all over the world sharing their latest research and collecting skills. Three local boys are being charged with several felonies in both Carter County and Fallon County following a series of incidents targeting juvenile females last year. Two of the defendants, Tucker Tooke and Sylvan "Royce" Tooke, were both minors at the time of the incidents and were arraigned as such earlier this year, but they have since turned 18 years of age. The general municipal election for the Town of Ekalaka, slated for November 7th, will be a mail ballot election this year. The Carter County Clerk and Recorder’s Office will mail ballots to all registered active voters who reside within the boundaries of Ekalaka. The Town of Ekalaka has allowed Perso Park to be the construction site of a tribute to local veterans, taking down the gazebo that once stood to make room. Franklin Delano "Dell" Dague visited the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial in Washington D.C. last month. Dague was named after the 32nd President of the United States, and enjoyed visiting the memorial as part of the Honor Flight he took June 12-14.
