    Around 15 people attended a birthday party for Neal Heggen on November 10 at the Senior Citizens Center in Ekalaka. Heggen turned sixty-nine this year and enjoyed all of the cards and greetings.     The 2020 Carter County Chamber of Commerce Calendar, featuring local historic photos, will be available at the Saturday, November 23 Holiday Bazaar in the CCHS gymnasium.   • Drive meets quota

    Last Tuesday’s blood drive in Ekalaka yielded twenty-six units of blood. Twenty-three people attended the drive and 21 were able to donate. Of those, 8 had appointments and 15 were walk-ins. Five people donated double units as the quota for the drive was met. David Malenovsky won the drive’s door prize. The next Ekalaka community blood drive will take place on Wednesday, January 8 from 1:15 to 5:30 p.m. at Carter County Events Center.   • Ekalaka nearing precipitation record

    As of Wednesday morning, Ekalaka had officially received 24.49 inches of precipitation, according to National Weather Service data. That number is 8.66 inches above normal. In 1971 Ekalaka received 26.95 inches for the entire year, the most on record and about 2.5 inches more than the area has received so far this year. Only twice has Ekalaka ever received over 25 inches of precipitation for the year. The other year was 2011 when 25.90 inches were recorded. That year holds a record for May precipitation with 11.99 inches....

  • 4-H wants you to be safe

    Carter County 4-H Ambassadors recently worked to encourage students to be safe during the Halloween season. Ambassadors plan and put on a safety program annually, prior to Halloween. The group contacts the school and plans activities for the program.     Amidst a crowd of family and friends, longtime Carter County resident Anabel Yates celebrated her 95th birthday at Dahl Memorial Healthcare in Ekalaka last Wednesday. Party goers enjoyed refreshments, conversation and their choice of two different cakes.     Unofficial results of the General Municipal Election for the Town of Ekalaka show that Raquel S. Williams, David Loudermilk and Jimmy W. Mackay have been elected to the Town Council. Williams, who ran unopposed for a four-year term, received 134 votes. Loudermilk and Mackay were each elected to two-year terms, defeating Micheal John Archer and Patrick W. Strickland .     The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Dahl Memorial Healthcare facility was held on September 6. Since then, Ekalaka has received 5.34 inches of moisture, and several inches of snow. The majority of that snow came on October 10, when 5 inches fell. So far this October, twenty days have seen temperatures below freezing.   • Voters have one week left to hand-deliver ballots for November 5th election

    The Montana Association of Clerk and Recorders (MACR) and the Commissioner of Political Practices (COPP) want to remind voters that all hand-delivered ballots must be delivered by November 5 and that any person who delivers a ballot on behalf of another voter must comply with BIPA (Ballot Interference Prevention Act) regulations.     Dr. Greg Tooke is taking down his shingle after forty-two years of serving Carter County and the surrounding area. In 1975 Greg Tooke came back to Ekalaka to set up the first veterinary practice in Carter County. For around a year or two, he worked out of the old "Grandma McLean" house in town.     This year’s General Municipal Election for the Town of Ekalaka will be a mail ballot election. On Wednesday, October 16, the Carter County Clerk and Recorder’s office mailed ballots to all registered active voters who reside within the boundaries of Ekalaka.
