  • Museum to build planetarium with grant funding

    Carter County Museum (CCM) was recently awarded a $38,000 grant from the Montana Department of Commerce through the Eastern Montana Tourism Initiative Grant Program. The funding will be used to construct a planetarium dome on museum grounds in hopes of attracting more visitors. In the spring and summer of 2019, the Carter County Museum brought a portable planetarium to eleven communities and over 2,500 students throughout the state of Montana.     Carter County Chamber of Commerce members will elect officers at their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, March 12. The meeting will take place at the Ekalaka Public Schools board room at 6 p.m. A change in bylaws last year moved the elections to March of each year so that current members had a chance to pay dues before elections took place.     School officials learned last week that Ekalaka Elementary District #15 was selected for a $750,000 grant. The money, awarded by the Montana Department of Commerce Community Development Division, is to be granted “for the construction of a connecting wing between the elementary and high school buildings to secure the entrance and playground security,” according to a letter from the governor’s office notifying the school.
