    There continue to be zero cases of COVID-19 in Carter County. Since we started testing for COVID-19 in March, Montana has only had 554 positive cases, with surrounding states having significantly higher numbers. In Montana, there are currently only 51 active cases, and 485 people have already recovered from COVID-19. In South Dakota, there are 972 active cases, with 4483 recovered. The little one was born at 6:07 p.m. at the University of New Mexico Hospital weighing 8 pounds 15 ounces and was 21.25 inches tall.     According to the National Weather Service, Ekalaka received 1.05 inches of rain on Sunday evening. The downpour came in a matter of minutes a left some of Ekalaka's streets underwater for a short time. High winds accompanied the thunderstorm, making it difficult to measure the actual precipitation. Some residents around the county reported receiving as much as 2 inches during the storm.     Visit Southeast Montana welcomed three new members to the Board of Directors during its April 29 board meeting. Eva Grimes of Carter County, Jamie Redger of Big Horn County and Kathy McLane of Dawson County were voted in unanimously. Grimes was born and raised in Carter County. After spending time out of state, she returned to Ekalaka and began working for local businesses.     Countywide voter turnout for the primary election was much higher than it was in 2018 as seventy-three percent of the county’s 885 registered voters returned mail ballots by 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Precinct 13 (Ekalaka) and Precinct 14 (Rural Ekalaka) each had 73 percent voter turnout while Precinct 1 (Alzada) and Precinct 3 (Hammond) had 71 percent. In total, 650 ballots were returned.
