While Ekalaka resident Sue Schneider was recently out of town visiting grandchildren, she noticed little wooden and metal boxes with books in them on many streets. All, she says, were very creative. Some looked like bird houses, others like doll houses. Inside were books that had been lovingly read and were now being made available to anyone; books for children, adolescents and adults. Greg and Susan Tooke moved to Ekalaka in 1976. With a degree in veterinary medicine, Greg had always wanted to return home to set up a vet clinic. Susan was dubious but was in lust at the time, and would go anywhere as long as it was with Greg. They have been together 53 years! Plans for the Days of ‘85 are continuing as the event draws nearer. The annual county fair and rodeo is slated for August 11th through August 14th this year. On Thursday, sheep dog trials will be taking place at Ekalaka Track and Arena. A silent auction will begin and animal shows will also be taking place. According to the National Weather Service, Ekalaka received 21.5 inches of snow during last week's blizzard. By 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 11.5 inches had accumulated, another 7.5 had fallen by 5 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday saw 2.5 inches. The snow resulted in 1.41 inches of precipitation. Over eighty people attended a town hall meeting with Governor Greg Gianforte at Carter County Events Center last Thursday. The town hall was held as part of the governor's fifty-six county tour, which began last week.
