On June 28th, the county commission made the decision to aid the town of Ekalaka in it's ongoing effort to build a new pool in Ekalaka. The county committed to donating $200,000 for a new pool in the town of Ekalaka. Countywide voter turnout for Tuesday's primary election was fifty-eight percent, about average for a primary election over the last 10 years. Emswiler Pool opened on Memorial Day, May 27th in Ekalaka this year. Last year the pool opened on June 16th; it opened on June 27th in 2022. Forty-two kids made their way to the pool on opening day to enjoy their start to summer-even though the temperature only hit a high of 66 degrees on Monday. Emswiler Pool is scheduled to open this Friday, June 16th at 1 p.m. Last year the town's swimming pool opened on June 27th. It did not open at all in 2021. Emswiler Pool is scheduled to open on Monday, June 27th at 1 p.m. The pool in Ekalaka did not open last year. The pool will then be open Monday through Friday. Open swim is set for 1 to 5 p.m., followed by adult swim from 5 to 7 p.m. and open swim again from 7 to 9 p.m. Information on swimming lessons will be coming in the near future. September brought the Town of Ekalaka's restricted cash account for the swimming pool to $50,013.60! These funds plus the others of $108,531.43 in pool committee funds, $11,945.20 from the Lions Club, and $12,003.06 from Meadowlark Club bring the total to $182,493.29. The question of why motel pools do not have to have lifeguards and the town pool does is often asked. The answer is found in the Montana Code Annotated (50-53-107) and also in the Administrative Rules of Montana (37.115.1601).
