    Ekalaka Public Schools Principal Brian Purnell recently resigned from his position. Purnell’s last day in office was Thursday, November 2nd. The school-owned housing that Purnell lived in with his family is already vacant and the K-12 principal position was posted on the Montana Office of Public Instruction website by Tuesday morning.     The majority of local voters said no to a pair of school bonds totaling $1.5 million in Tuesday’s mail ballot election. Ekalaka Public Schools would have used the money to design, construct and equip staff housing on property the school already owns. The Carter County High School district bond election for $750,000 failed with 370 votes against and only 119 for.     Students attending Ekalaka Public Schools headed back to their respective classrooms last Thursday for the 2023-2024 school year. Total enrollment this year, as of July 25th, is 130 students.
